History of the Journal

Bratislava Law Review (BLR) was established in 2017 by Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Law and Wolters Kluwer SR, Mlynské Nivy 48, 821 09 Bratislava, Slovak Republic. The goal was to establish a first international legal journal published in English and produced by Slovak publishers to provide space for presenting a diversity of opinions and approaches to current legal issues and problems, aiming in this way to contribute to overall rise in standards of legal scholarship in the CEE region. This idea came from the dean of Faculty of Law, doc. JUDr. Eduard Burda, PhD., as well as from the former vice-dean for science, research and PhD. study, prof. JUDr. Marián Vrabko, CSc. 

Since then, two issues have been published annually with many studies, articles, discussion papers and reports. BLR has sought to support legal discourse and research and promote the critical legal thinking in the global extent. BLR focuses on publishing papers mainly from two areas:
1. Legal Theory and Legal Philosophy.
2. International Law, EU Law and Regulation of the Global Business (topics with international aspects).
Comparative papers and papers devoted to interesting trends and issues in national law that reflect various global challenges and could inspire legal knowledge and its application in other countries are welcomed too.

In 2020 Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Law became the only publisher of BLR after mutual agreement with Wolters Kluwer SR.

The editors of the BLR were:
1. First two volumes (2017-2018):
Prof. Tomáš Gábriš (Editor in chief), Dr. Matej Horvat (Executive Editor) and Dr. Ondrej Hamuľák (secretary of editorial board).
2. Volume 3, no. 1, 2019:
Assoc. Prof. Matej Horvat (Editor in chief), Mgr. Olexij M. Meteňkanyč (Executive Editor) and Dr. Ondrej Hamuľák (secretary of editorial board).
3. Since Volume 3, no. 2, 2019 up to this day:
Assoc. Prof. Ondrej Blažo (Editor in chief), Mgr. Olexij M. Meteňkanyč (Executive Editor) and Dr. Ondrej Hamuľák (secretary of editorial board).

BLR is currently one of the most significant journals published by Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Law. Others are: Acta Facultatis Iuridicae Universitatis Comenianae (a peer-reviewed scientific journal that began in 1966 and is published in Slovak language), ComenIUS and Historia et Theoria Iuris (a scientific peer-reviewed journals published in electronic form and are published in Slovak language).
