Abstract

The subject of this article is the inter-state application operating within the European regional human rights protection system. The inter-state application is an important element of the monitoring mechanism created to ensure respect for the rights and freedoms set out in the European Convention on Human Rights and its Additional Protocols. This paper focuses on applications brought against the United Kingdom. This country, despite being one of the founders of the Council of Europe, is also the addressee of the largest number of inter-state applications right after the Russian Federation and Turkey. The article attempts to answer why this is the case.
