Restorative Justice: At the Border between Criminal Law and Morality

In this paper, I examine the criminal law institutions of restorative justice within Hungarian law through the lens of morality. In my view, in an era characterised by increasingly self-aware citizens, compliance with the law cannot be solely enforced through the fear of retribution. Consequently, the significance of any legal institution that facilitates emotional identification with legal consequences is amplified. In alignment with these considerations, my study will first elucidate the relationship between morality and law, subsequently explore the emergence of restorative institutions on the international stage, and finally concentrate on Hungarian legislation.
